Clovelly Estate
Stonebank worked with the Owner of Clovelly Estate and the Estate’s firm of Landscape Architects on a brief to replace an ancient post and wire deer fence running along the front of the house. This involved the use of high tensile 3.14mm wire, with 50x10mm solid flat steel uprights.
One of the most interesting aspects of this project was the number of wonderful old cast iron straining posts which needed to be refurbished and reused. This was done by clearing away the existing fence (comprising rotten steel posts and about 3 kilometres of wire), sandblasting the straining posts and painting them. The paint had to be applied immediately, because if left for even an hour (particularly in this location on the sea and exposed to salt air), rust quickly forms over the recently sandblasted surfaces.
In addition to the fence, an existing gate and its posts needed to be sandblasted, repaired and repainted.
